Mohamed Salah wins English PFA Player of the Year award

Mohamed Salah was crowned the Premier League's Players' Player of the Year on Sunday, with his incredible 41-goal debut season at Liverpool beating out strong competition from Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne.

"It's a big honour. I've worked hard and I'm very happy to win it," Salah said at the ceremony on Sunday evening.

Salah matched a Premier League record tally for a single season by scoring his 31st league goal of the campaign in a 2-2 draw at West Brom on Saturday.

You're comparing your name with some great names," he said, on the prospect of breaking the record. "To break the Premier League record is something huge in England and all over in the world.

"There are still three games to go. I want to break this record."

Salah has also netted seven times in eight Champions League games, including in both legs of Liverpool's 5-1 quarterfinal thrashing of City, to carry his side to a first semifinal for a decade.

Arsenal to face Atlético Madrid in semi-finals of the Euro

Arsenal to face Atlético Madrid in semi-finals of the Euro

Arsenal face a tough assignment in their quest to salvage something from the season after being drawn to face the favourites, Atlético Madrid, in the Europa League in their first European semi-final for nine years.

After surviving a scare to come from two goals down to draw 2-2 against CSKA Moscow on Thursday, Arsenal will play the first leg at the Emirates on 26 April before the return game on 3 May. Marseille and Salzburg were paired together in the other semi-final.

The competition represents Arsenal’s only chance of winning silverware and is their only realistic opportunity of qualifying for the Champions League given their poor domestic form. They are sixth in the Premier League, 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

LA Galaxy supporters GIVE HERO TO THERE NEWCOMER Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has arrived in California following his move to MLS club LA Galaxy, receiving a hero's welcome.

An LA Galaxy press conference introducing Ibrahimovic will be held on Friday at 9.30pm (BST).

Bayern Munich identify Chelsea star Alvaro Morata as replacement for Robert Lewandowski

Bayern Munich identify Chelsea star Alvaro Morata as replacement for Robert Lewandowski

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is high on Bayern Munich’s list of replacements for Robert Lewandowski, who they believe is joining Real Madrid at the end of the season.

The Poland international joined the Bundesliga giants five years ago but Madrid are keen on him to take over from Karim Benzema in what is likely to be a busy summer for Zinedine Zidane’s side. Lewandowski is 30 in August and Bayern know this could potentially be the last summer in which they can extract a large fee for the forward and the Germans are keen to bring the average age down of their squad. Morata is four years younger than Lewandowski and Bayern believe Chelsea are open to letting the Spaniard go after just one season at Stamford Bridge,

The former Real Madrid man found his form early in west London but he’s scored just once since Boxing Day and failed to get into Spain’s last squad for friendlies against Argentina and Italy. Morata was Antonio Conte’s second choice after Romelu Lukaku last summer and the Spaniard’s stock could fall further if, as is expected, the Italian leaves the club at the end of the season.

Bayern are considering Timo Werner and Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani as other alternatives but Morata is likely to cost around the £58m mark that Chelsea paid Real Madrid less than 12 months ago. Chelsea signed Olivier Giroud in January and Morata’s been in competition with the Frenchman for a starting berth and started neither leg of the Blues’ last-16 Champions League clashes against Barcelona.

David de Gea v Mohamed Salah Manchester United host Liverpool

David de Gea v Mohamed Salah  Manchester United host Liverpool

The Premier League's top shot-stopper David de Gea comes face to face with the league's joint-top scorer Mohamed Salah in the 200th meeting between England's two most successful clubs,

De Gea has been in outstanding form this season, having conceded only 22 league goals. Based on Opta's xG data for shots on target faced, the average 'keeper would have been expected to concede 36 goals. This is the biggest differential by a Premier League goalkeeper this season.

De Gea has faced Liverpool 18 times in his career, more than against any other side, keeping six clean sheets. In his last four league games against the Reds he has a save ratio of 94%, conceding just once from 16 shots on target faced - James Milner's penalty in the 1-1 at Old Trafford last season.

United faced 19 shots in the goalless draw at Anfield last October, with De Gea making five saves, of which one was from Salah. This was the first time that these two players had faced each other.

Salah has been in scintillating form this season, and is currently the joint-top scorer this term with Harry Kane on 24. No player has been involved in more league goals this season than Salah.

I AM Jose Mourinho's 'sergeant' by Romelu Lukaku

I AM Jose Mourinho's 'sergeant' by Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku believes Jose Mourinho sees him as "his sergeant on the pitch" in an exclusive chat with Thierry Henry, ahead of Manchester United v Liverpool.

Since joining United from Everton for £90m in the summer, Lukaku has started 28 of 29 Premier League games, missing just the 2-0 win at Everton with concussion in January.

Lukaku has been involved in 11 goals in 11 appearances in all competitions in 2018, scoring eight goals and racking up three assists.

Mourinho has singled out his striker for individual praise at various points this season, insisting he is not only focused on goals but his overall involvement in how his United team function as a unit.

Lukaku says he feels like an important member of the United squad and used an army analogy to describe his role within the team.

"I think the manager in his mind thinks that I'm like his sergeant on the pitch, and that's strange for a striker because it's usually the midfielders," he told Henry, assistant coach at Lukaku's national side Belgium.

"I've always worked hard and I'm grateful but at the end of the day, I'm a striker and I have to score goals.

"He has been really good but I think he knows I have that soldier mentality.

"I think the work rate I am delivering to the team is a lot and he knows he can come to me whenever. I will always put the team first
ahead of myself and that's something I told him, I said 'the team is the most important thing'.
"The desire to win is bigger than ever since I came to this club, because I always wanted to win and to chase trophies. I always put that in front of my personal objectives and he knows that, and I think that's the reason why I'm playing all the time."
